TAFE finally managed to change my workshop days to Mondays & Tuesdays with Luke, with an early technical drawing class on Wednesday mornings. I’ve only gotten to know Emma and Class B for a very short amount of time, but I have to say I miss them already!

One hour into Luke’s Monday class, he tells us the square & triangle fit test will be timed and the task is to be completed within 2 hours. We were given a chance to practise the assessment before the real deal, but the practice piece took me all of Monday. The trickiest requirement was that the pieces need to slot in, but cannot fall out when held up together.

It was a relief going into the second day of workshop class and to find out that the 2 hour limit was not actually enforced. Luke said that if we worked in the industry as bench jewellers, this time limit would be fairly realistic. The second attempt at the fit test went smoother, and I had a little bit of spare time to start on the bookmark task.

This week’s wrap up:

Working with brass and copper
Making pieces fit nice and flush together
Spent 4 hours after class designing the bookmark(!)
Started on bookmark task
Drilling with drill press
