I thought that we were going to use draw plates to make a half round wire for the wedding band but of course we took the harder route and made it from a flat band. Filing the sides to get an even roundness was a bit tricky but the high dome result was very satisfying to look at / touch.

After “finishing” the high dome shape, it was time to cut it up again. You can see from the photos that there are two different ways to make an extra piece. Luke’s method is to create a curved piece with tiny feet at the bottom to prevent the piece from being pushed out by the ring tension. Emma’s method makes the extra piece into an hourglass and fits it inside pointed edges of the ring (this was her sample, I haven’t had a chance to try this method yet).

I feel that Luke’s method was easier to achieve a snug fit and I am happy to report that I was able to solder this piece in one go using another flux called Tenacity. The small tip of the micro torch also helped with precision firing as compared to the Orca torch.

This week’s wrap up:

Tenacity flux for the win! Get that Auflux away from me
Drawing class is getting more complex and we have a test next week
