6 - 8 Feb 2023

Classes for TAFE’s Certificate II in Engineering (with a focus on jewellery) has commenced on 6 Feb 2023. It’s a full time course with two full days and one extra class on the third day. Work has been very accommodating and I have been able to work flexible hours.

The last time I properly made jewellery was in 2015, and over the years I haven’t forgotten my love for silversmithing. Fast forward to Oct 2022, I booked one session at Sydney Community College to finish setting an opal ring, and I knew then that I had to pick up the craft again.

We hit the ground running in week 01. We started off with a drawing class with Felix to ease into the course, but the workshop classes with Emma were intense. Not only were we given a ton of information, it was physically demanding as well. I also found out that my eyesight is worse than I thought…

This week’s wrap up:

Measuring with calipers
Scribing
Sawing straight, curved, zig zag lines
Filing with hand files, needle files
Polishing with emery
